medication. At Dog Days Camp all dogs receive the same quality care
and pampering at one low and all inclusive rate. Additional charges
may apply for specialized medical attention.
Q:
What sets you apart from other kennels?
A: We are not your average kennel! In a typical
kennel set-up that you've probably seen, your dog may be in a cage
with a walk-out to a small outdoor pen. In this type of arrangement,
you dog would be confined to these small areas. At Dog Days Camp,
there are no walk-outs from our stalls to an outdoor pen. The benefits
of this set up is an increased amount of human contact as we must
handle the dogs in order to take them out to our sprawrling, 2-acre
securely fenced grassy run area. And of course the second main advantage
is that your dog will be able to get all of the exercise he/she
needs during three, one-hour-long daily playtimes.
Q:
Would your facility be suitable for my older/unsocial dog?
A: Individual attention is provided in these circumstances.
One-on-one interaction with our attentive staff and leashed walks
are provided for older or less social dogs. Our goal is to make
your dog’s stay with us as comfortable and enjoyable as possible
(sorry no overly aggressive dogs please). In-home boarding is available
for small breeds at no extra charge.
Q:
What do I need to supply?
A: All you need to supply is food, a leash, and
you dog's food and water bowls. You may also send along anything
your dog likes from home. We always recommend that you supply bedding
or blankets so that your dog has a comfortable place to rest.. Other
items from home might include a favorite toy(s), and treats. Some
owners like to bring along something with their scent on it such
as an article of clothing in order to make their dog feel more at
ease.
Q:
What vaccinations does my dog require to stay at your facility?
A: All kennels will require that current vaccinations
are up-to-date as well as proof of annual vaccinations. Be wary
of any kennel that does not. These vaccinations include: DHP (distemper),
rabies, and Bordatella (kennel cough)
Q:
What is the bordatella vaccination?
A: The purpose of the bordatella vaccination is to prevent kennel
cough which is an airborne virus. It's just like us catching a cold
and is not extremely dangerous. The problem is that if one dog in
the kennel has it, all of them will get sick. The bordatella vaccination
must be administered by your veterinarian and is usually in the
form of a nasal mist and lasts up to one year. It must be administered
2 weeks prior to your dogs visit. ALL kennels and boarding facilities
require the bordatella vaccination. Be extremely wary of those who
don't. If you plan to occasionally board your dog you should include
the bordatella vaccination during his/her annual check-up. This
way a special trip to the vet is not required when you need to board
your dog.
Q:
Will my friendly/social dog always be with other dogs and what does
he/she do in an average day?
A: Your friendly/social dog will enjoy three 1-hour-long
supervised play times daily in our sprawling 2-acre outdoor run
area. Some owners prefer leashed walks in certain circumstances
(i.e. older, less active dogs that might just lie down in the run
area). Please notify us if this is the case. In the spring to fall
months, those who like to swim will enjoy daily outings to our huge
spring-fed pond. When your dog is not out having fun, he/she will
be in his/her own individual area in our clean, modern facility.
Air conditioning in the summer and radiant floor heating in the
winter will ensure your pets comfort. At night the lights are turned
out (a night-light is left on) and soothing classical music is played
for our campers. There are other dog “camps” where dogs
are left continuously in a group environment. We, as well as ALL
veterinarians we’ve consulted with, feel this is not a very
good idea. Although dogs are pack animals, most if not all domestic
dogs are not used to this type of environment. This situation can
be very stressful on your dog and could lead to aggression and injury
due to fighting over food or possessions. Also while in this type
of environment it is impossible to monitor the dogs 24 hours a day
to prevent any problems from occurring.
Q:
What
are your hours of operation? or
What
hours can I pick-up or drop-off my dog(s)?
A:
We are open year-round
and offer 2 convenient pick-up and drop-off times daily. 9-10
a.m. or 5-6 p.m.. If you need to pick-up or drop-off you dog outside
of these hours, we will try to accomodate you. (an extra charge
may apply)
Q:
What type of payment do you accept?
A: We accept cash or cheque when you drop off (or
when we pick-up) your dog.
Q:
Can I have a tour of the facility?
A: Certainly!!! It’s always a good idea to
do your homework and make sure you are comfortable with the place
you are trusting to care for a valued family member. Always make
sure that the establishment you chose is licensed and always ask
to see a licence if it is not displayed prominently. Please call
us to arrange an appointment for a tour.
